Our
last day at Joseph and Joyce's house was busy and productive, as they have
all been. We bought several ladders, since some of the work today
was putting up ceiling joists (boards that the ceiling of the house will
be nailed to) and beginning on the roof. We also finished siding the
whole house, put in the windows, and added studs in all the corners to
prepare for drywall.
We
had numerous visitors to the site today, including a newspaper
reporter. One of the visitors was Kevin, the man who we call to get
more supplies. He told us that he got a call yesterday.
Apparently Brent's cellphone on his belt got accidentally bumped, and it
hit redial. So when Kevin answered the phone, all he could hear was
about 20 people hammering! He knew right away, he said, what had
happened. So he handed the phone to one of his co-workers and
proudly said, "Listen to this! That's my crew over there at the
Pillette's house!"
We
ended the day with devotions in the house with Joseph and Joyce and their
family, and also several neighborhood children who adopted us. One
of them, a little girl of about kindergarten age who had taken a shine to
Jeremy, was riding on his back. I was standing behind them at the
time, and I'll always remember how she turned her head to look at me,
sigh, and say about Jeremy, "I'm really gonna miss him."
Then she laid her head on his back. There were tears, and it was
hard to leave for all of us.
We
had planned to order pizza back at the hotel, but found out that the
members of a local Christian band/singing group wanted to entertain us
during our meal. It was an unexpected surprise to find out they were
already set up at the church, waiting for us to arrive. So we ate at
the church while they sang and expressed appreciation to us for coming to
work there.
Today
was a great way to end the working portion of our trip. Here are a
few pictures from today...
