Common Sense in the Bible

This is an ongoing list.  Quotes from "Common Sense in the Bible" are listed below in the order they were shared (top of list is most recent).

Issue #1--Week of November 1, 1999

Someone who is sure of himself does not talk all the time.  People who stay calm have real insight.  After all, even a fool may be thought wise and intelligent if he stays quiet and keeps his mouth shut.    –Proverbs 17:27-28 (TEV)*

Comment:  These common-sense pearls of wisdom from the Bible were written more than 2000 years ago to teach people how to live a better life.  Isn’t it amazing how true these words still are?  Every week a “Common Sense Gem from the Bible” will be included—but usually without comment.  For anybody who wants to learn to be wise, they are truly worth studying, and they speak for themselves!

* “TEV” stands for “Today’s English Version.”  It is a translation of the Bible in modern, everyday English which is easy to read.  It is published by the American Bible Society of New York.  Permission has been granted to reprint selections of Today’s English Version of the Bible.
